France Awards Veolia Water Contract

A Veolia Water-led consortium has won a €270m ($335m) contract to build a wastewater treatment plant in Reunion Island, France.

The contract covers the design, financing, construction and operation of the new plant for a period of 20 years.

The consortium includes OTV, Sogea and SBTPC (Vinci) and Egis Eau from Reunion North Interdistrict Community (CINOR), France.

The engineering part will be handled by OTV while tertiary treatment will be handled by Sogea and civil engineering carried out by Vinci.

Egis Eau will be responsible for supervising the works and project management for the plant’s construction.

The new plant will have an initial capacity to provide treated water to a population of 160,000, with the possibility of a later extension to 235,000.

The plant’s work is scheduled to start in the second half of 2010 and be commissioned in 2013.
