US City to Invest in Water Projects

The US city of Boulder, Colorado, has announced plans to upgrade its water facilities.

The city will invest $37m in water utilities, $18.5m in stormwater and flood utilities, $6.2m in wastewater utilities and $13m in repairing water lines.

The city proposes to improve the capacity of the Betasso Water Treatment Facility by retrofitting coagulation and sedimentation units with newer technology at an overall cost of $9.5m over six years.

The city also plans to invest $13m through to 2016 to replace ageing water lines to curb water line breaks.

Boulder will also invest $2.1m a year to maintain water lines as part of a larger capital improvements programme.
