ADB to Fund Water Projects in Kyrgyz Republic

Asian Development Bank (ADB) has extended an emergency assistance of $100m to Kyrgyz Republic, including $30m to improve the country’s water infrastructure.

The money will be used to fund the rehabilitation of community infrastructure, water supply and treatment systems, and to improve ageing water systems in the worst-affected areas of Osh and Jalal-Abad.

The investment will also help Kyrgyz Republic develop plans for longer term water and sanitation improvements.

The assistance from ADB includes a $48.5m loan with a 40-year maturity and a ten-year grace period, as well as a $51.5m grant.
