Degremont to operate Egyptian waste water treatment plant

Suez Environnement subsidiary Degremont has won a contract to operate and maintain the Gabal El Asfar 2A wastewater treatment plant in Cairo, Egypt together with Arab Co. and ICAT for an additional five-year period.

Under the €28m contract, Degrémont will renovate all the digestors at the plant, together with the five 2.3MW-capacity gas generators.

Degrémont CEO Rémi Lantier said that the company is very proud of the new operating contract awarded for the Gabal 2A wastewater treatment plant.

"It rewards Degrémont teams’ know-how, as construction and operating contractors, and their ability to adapt to our customers’ new requirements and to the challenges facing them," Lantier added.

The Gabal 2A wastewater treatment plant is capable of treating 500,000m³ a day, and offers comprehensive carbon pollution treatment.

The plant is also capable of producing biogas from sewage sludge, which enables it to be 65% energy self sufficient once the biogas has been turned into power.

Degrémont has been working in Egypt since 1948 and currently employs 345 people.
