Saudi Arabian National Water allocates $1bn for water projects in Riyadh

National Water of Saudi Arabia plans to implement several infrastructure projects in Riyadh worth SAR4bn ($1.07bn) to expand the water and sewage services in the city’s populated areas.

The projects involve measures to detect and repair leaks in the city’s water system and in households, and to raise the level of services in the water and sewage sector.

National Water is currently working on a strategic plan to complete work on the Raas Alkhama project that seeks to increase water distribution from the project in Riyadh.

The total value of the work on the Raas Alkhama project is about SAR3bn ($800m) and it will increase the water supply by 800,000m³ per day.

These works involve the implementation of water lines spanning 580km with different diameters and establishing water tanks in various capacities.

National Water is expecting to spend another SAR1bn ($267m) on providing main lines, sewage networks, and household connections in many neighborhoods in Riyadh.

Riyadh currently has 400,000 water connections and demand for new ones is expanding at an average 18,000 connections every year.

The company said that the infrastructure projects are being implemented under a public competition system and qualification requirements that meet international standards.
