Sembcorp to double industrial water capacity in China

Utilities developer, owner and operator Sembcorp will double its water capacity in the Nanjing Chemical Industrial Park in Jiangsu province, China, to 240,000m³ a day.

The expansion will cost RMB65.2m ($10.5m) and will be funded through a mix of equity and borrowings.

The Group has been present in the Nanjing Chemical Industrial Park since 2005. Sembcorp NCIP Water, a 95:5 joint venture between Sembcorp and NCIP Utilities, will be responsible for the expansion, which is expected to be completed by mid 2015.

Sembcorp said that its RMB24.8m ($4m) share of the equity investment will be financed by internal funds.

In addition, the company will also expand its wind power capacity in Huanghua, Hebei province, by almost 50%. Currently, Sembcorp has 24 operations across the country.

Sembcorp China CEO Alan Yau said that the expansions are in line with the company’s China growth strategy and exemplify its firm focus in this important market.
