Brazilian water utility to carry out $93m sewerage projects

Brazilian water utility Casan is to invest R$156m ($93.1m) in sewerage system projects in the state of Santa Catarina, Brazil.

A Casan spokesperson said that the projects will receive financing from the country’s growth acceleration plan and tenders are expected in 2012.

The utility will allocate R$97m for an underwater pipeline in Campeche, R$28.7m for an underground pipeline in Santo Antonio de Lisboa and Campeche, and R$7.8m for a pipeline in Ribeirao da Ilha and Campeche.

The utility will also spend R$12.9m on the expansion of the collector network in the regions of Abrao and Capoeiras, and R$9.5m on the network in Lagoinha and Praia Brava.

Casan aims to increase its sewerage service coverage in 197 municipalities from 17% to 45% over the next three years.
