Philippines Plans Pasig River Wastewater Plant

The Philippines plans to construct a wastewater treatment plant to clean up waterways in Metro Manila by cleansing the Pasig River and its tributaries.

According to an estimate, the wastewater treatment project will cost between $700m and $1bn, which is to be invested within the next two years.

Philippines water utilities Manila Water and Maynilad Water Services have chalked out a master plan for the project and identified the location.

The wastewater treatment facility will be set up at the San Juan River basin to treat wastewater to ensure that the 27km-long Pasig River remains clean following excessive discharges of untreated sewage.

The project will also reduce floodwater from the Pasig River and Manila Bay, according to businessesmirror.com.
